Numerous companies and organizations are proving that DIRECT MARKETING is what has kept their business steady and thriving in the middle of this recession which may not improve any time soon.

COMMENTS: BECAUSE OF A TREMENDOUS RESPONSE, WE SHUT OFF COMMENTS TO OLDER BLOGS. JOIN OUR DISCUSSION IN OUR MOST RECENT BLOG.

Numerous companies and organizations are proving that DIRECT MARKETING is what has kept their business steady and thriving in the middle of this recession which may not improve any time soon. The nice thing about most direct marketing is it involves independent contractors who follow a business owners guidelines, but the business owner does not have to absorb the expenses that accompany an employee-employer relationship. Anyone can implement Direct Marketing. It’s also attractive to independent contractors because they may often times work out of their home or set their own schedule as they get paid based on their production. Its a win-win for all involved. Sellers can buy a required amount of inventory to assure their dedication and reduce the risk for the employer. If its a service commodity, independent contractors may invest or pay an upfront fee to cover the expenses of demonstration, training, or general expense materials. You are creating jobs for people!

In order to place your product on the shelves of a retailer, you have to pay them a fee to do this. Politics come into play and serve as obstacles to putting your product on the shelves, because most well established competitors don’t want your product next to their product. You need a large amount of cash. Your turnover rate in a retail store may be 2%-5%. Direct selling gives you 80-100% dependent upon your initial cost.

Its been shown that only 24% of small businesses are using social media which is declined from six months to a year ago. However out of this percentage, 82% use one of the most popular social networking mediums. The expectations of what social media can do have changed in that business owners are finally realizing it is great for building social awareness about their company versus direct sales. The sales will flow automatically in a more indirect manner. This is a turn off to many who are stuck in a rut of old fashioned thinking, but it has done wonders for those who are willing to explore new and free ways of gaining exposure for their business. How many people read a phone book just to browse through it? Phone books are typically used when someone has already decided they need a product or service. In social networking, you are reaching an audience you may have never reached through other methods of advertising or marketing. It works wonders. When it begins to launch and convert itself into sales, most business owners are inundated with customers. If you don’t have a long term mindset, you’ll have to develop one along with patience. Its the difference between building a quick short-lived fire in fifteen minutes versus taking an hour or two to collect the twigs, branches & logs to assure you have the ingredients for a robust fire that will burn for days. Social media works the same way. It can take months before you see the results, but rest assured you are gathering the ingredients for a solid foundation & long term survival in your industry. Your bonfire will be seen from miles away. Your competitors will attract a small group of consumers in a short period of time, but they won’t hang around once the flames fizzle out. Where do you think they will go? They are going to run for the massive flames. Make sure that bonfire is attached to your business.

START BUILDING YOUR BONFIRE TODAY BY BUILDING YOUR SOCIAL NETWORK TODAY.

HEART ATTACKS: Cooling the temperature of the body with focus on the reducing the brain's temperature has revealed favorable results in the survival rates of heart attack victims.

1) HEART ATTACKS: Cooling the temperature of the body with focus on the reducing the brain’s temperature has revealed favorable results in the survival rates of heart attack victims. Did you know that only five to ten percent of heart attack victims are successfully resuscitated? There is a new device called the BeneChill. Medical experts claim it can be used without medical training to cool the body’s temperature and best of all, its portable. It was invented by a neurologist from the U.K., (Dr. Denise Barbut now resides in New York).

2) MEDWATCHER: MedWatcher is an application compatible with the iphone. It will send you status reports on everything from recalls to the latest discoveries on the medicine or list of prescriptions you or a loved one is taking. If you or a loved experience an adverse reaction to one or medications, you can immediately send a message to the FDA. Other reports from other users will be available for your review as well. We have Children’s Hospital of Boston & University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to thank for this application.

3) ELASTIC IRON ALLOY:You may have heard of nitinol (nickel-titanium alloy), but Elastic Iron Alloy is comprised of iron, nickel, cobalt, & aluminum. Its elasticity is 13% beyond its original size, 1.5 times stronger than nitinol and it has excellent elastic memory. What’s it good for? It would be beneficial to manufacturers of medical devices and construction workers who build structures in earthquake prone areas. It would add to the stability of the devices and structures while increasing durability and flexibility with the human body (medical devices) and the earth (structural engineering). [NOT YET RELEASED OR APPROVED]

4) MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS:Moving closer to a cure? 55% of MS patients also have reduced fluidity in the veins from the brain to other parts of the body. This reduction is known as Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency or CCVI. Paolo Zamboni believes because of these studies that perhaps since an abundance of iron results from CCVI in the brain that this iron may be a key to the cause of MS. Zamboni implanted stints in the veins leading to the brain and it produced extremely positive results. There is much more to be done in this study. http://www.suite101.com/content/dr-paulo-zamboni-offers-hope-to-ms-patients-a172795

5) SPIRITUAL HEALING: There is the area of cures and healing that have less to do with this world and more to do with the unseen realm. There are countless stories of dumbfounded scientists, surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other medical experts who cannot explain the healing process of certain patients who cross their paths. http://www.christian-faith.com/forjesus/divine-healing-of-son-in-hospital http://mindhacks.org/miraculous-healing-with-the-mind/ http://www.uscatholic.org/culture/art-and-reviews/2010/03/full-grace-miraculous-stories-healing-and-conversion-through-marys-i

Growth in the market is slow but it is occurring.

Steel & metal workers in Illinois and Missouri felt the positive shift.

Producers of medications and medical equipment in the health care industry also witnessed a rise in demand.

Previously overall manufacturing was on the rise (April)

Retail sales was doing well (April-current)

The fashion industry in New York experienced an increase (May-June)

The housing market improved as mortgage rates dropped (May-June)

Tourism received a boost (April)

Since February 2010, a higher number of people, for the first time, voluntarily left their jobs than were asked to leave through layoffs or termination. In addition and more recently, for the first time in a long time fewer people have been laid off in Januray of 2011 and the number of jobs created exceeded the number of lost jobs across the nation.

Part of the struggle and challenge is that each time we take a step forward we seem to be facing a new disaster. When we say we, we mean the whole world.

Greece was unable to repay their tab on social programs, overspending and more in April 2010. Greece just didn’t have the cash. Greece is part of the Euro Currency Union so that a default without repercussions is not feasible. Experts denote that Ireland, Italy, Portugal & Spain are in a similar position. Experts claim it is just a matter of time before these other European countries follow suit behind Greece.

We have been faced with the oil spill which continues to draw on our resources and while taking jobs away it is also adding jobs. We must remain focused on the creation of jobs at all times while remaining aware of the loss of jobs. Our energy and resources should be invested in the creation of jobs or in finding jobs for people.

The recent flooding in Tennessee and more recently in Arkansas has not helped businesses in those areas.

GOOD NEWS:

As the number of people who quit their jobs out numbers the employees who were terminated, experts state with confidence that this shows that employees are being given options, job offers, and income. It shows there is cash in the market to generate and regenerate small to mid-size businesses, households, financial institutions, educational institutions, government sectors, insurance companies, factories, manufacturers, and more.

Interest rates are expected to remain low and continue to be aggressively worked on to maintain such attractive levels.

We are not facing issues with inflation because influential businesses and their leaders realize the damage that would follow in such a fragile economy.

Even with the fall-outs of earthquakes, oil spills, war, floods, etc. we must keep in mind that we still managed to stay afloat. Again we call to action progressive and proactive behavior toward solutions and avoid investments of time and efforts in dwelling on the challenges and obstacles. Great men and women must overcome great obstacles & great nations are the only nations that can conquer great challenges. These events have not stopped us. Events of the past of our ancestors have not beaten us either.

Stocks jumped upward as of Friday, 6-2010. Ben Bernanke (Chairman of the Federal Reserve) estimates continual growth being slow but steady and we are not expected to fall back into a recession.

Know your audience at work. Be cognisant of the kind of car you drive as it relates to your employer's overall culture and your job and with whom you come in contact. Your car is an extension of your fashion sense. Depending on your employer and the type of job you have, a flashy car could hint to your employer that you are unreliable or immature. That same car could tell a different employer in a different line of work that you are the right choice because you are trendy, cutting edge and good for the company's image.

http://4carwallpapers.com/tag/koenigsegg-ccxr

Depending on your employer and its key decision makers, the type of car you own and operate can be considered an extension of your fashion sense. Especially for the more youthful crowd or the young-at-heart crowd, you should always be aware of the message you are sending to your employer by the choice of car you drive. Some companies and occupations thrive on the flashiness of an automobile. Know your audience. Know your clients or clients to be . Know your co-workers or co-workers to be. In other words, if you are a sales representative and 50% or more of your anticipated clientele is going to be comprised of senior citizens, then choose a car that will send a calming message to your clients and your employer.

If however you are intending to be a club/party promoter in a high paced high fashion community, then a flashier car may be more suitable. Applying common sense is the protocol. Try to match your car with your career. We have worked with companies where no one earns anything less than six figures (including the clerical team), yet the company’s parking lot contains vehicles that cost $30,000.00 or less. We have seen CEO’s and presidents who are doing quite well, but opt to drive a Chevrolet Impala (fully loaded) and its not a “company car”.

An environmentally based employer may expect you to be operating a “green” vehicle. Your car could be the tie breaker between you and another applicant or candidate just like your clothing fashion sense, your manners, vocabulary and more. All we are saying is be as polished as you can be before heading into that interview.

If affordable, the best case scenario is to own two vehicles. This again is based on affordability and an abundance of income with suitable savings and retirement accounts and investments solidly in place. If you find yourself with an undying desire to drive a stylish high performance exotic vehicle, but your job dictates a more conservative mode of transportation, some professionals have satisfied both sides of their life by owning two vehicles. Many professionals appeal to their “creative” side by investing in a motorcycle.

We all fall prey to becoming preoccupied with our freedom of how we spend our income that we can overlook the messages we are sending to our bosses or superiors at work. We’ve witnessed qualified employees holding themselves back, unknowingly, for a promotion. Just put yourself in your employers’ position. If you were responsible for determining which of two employees you are going to promote to take on three times the amount of responsibility they have now, to meet with the public (all ages), and to be more visible in the community (all things being equal), would you choose the worker driving the two seater with the loud music or would you select the candidate with the sedan or SUV? Imagine if once in a great while the employee is required to pick up a vendor or client from the airport/train station or be the driver for lunch.

As petty as it may seem, executives and owners of companies can’t afford to be cavalier about their choices for jobs and promotions. Their reputations is on the line too. Again, your job and employer may or may not be effected at all by the kind of car you drive, but its something to keep in mind for those of you whose company culture does dictate something different in more subtle terms. Next time you drive into your parking lot or garage at work, take note of the automobile styles of your peers and especially of the those in a higher position you’d like to attain some day.

HAS CHINA COME TO THE REALIZATION THAT CHRISTIANITY IS GOOD FOR CAPITALISM?

www.BestServicesOnline.com www.BestServicesOnline.com

CHRISTIANITY

CHINA

CAPITALISM

With 5,000-6,000 years of proven history and communism taking its hold in 1949, China must be talked about in terms of our jobs and our economy. You may be for or against the U.S.A. reaching out to China and hosting a formal dinner that some say was long overdue and others feel there is no need for the formality. Can we afford to ignore such a massive country in terms of population, sheer size, political and economic power? A country that some say owns a piece of the U.S.A. on paper. Analysts say China needs the U.S.A. more than the U.S.A needs China. At the end of the day both countries seem to be in need of one another no matter the degree of need. China isn’t going anywhere and yes many of their government practices go against our core beliefs.

An extremely strange and unlikely phenomenon has been taking place in China. It has been a long time coming since the Cultural Revolution of China in the mid 1960′s and the massacre at Tiananmen Square in 1989. China’s focus has always been on business and ways to stay in the game earning profits. China can’t afford economic mistakes given its population of over 1.3 billion people on a planet that holds approximately 6.7 billion total. China carries 20% of the world’s population. China is slowly opening its doors to bits and pieces of Christianity. It may not be that those in control are for Christianity in their hearts, though we can’t say, but they acknowledge the positive influence Christianity has on their economy. The more they loosen the restraints on Christianity the more the country prospers & we can attest to China’s most recent growth spurt toward the number two spot of economic world powers. China’s people are responding more favorably once converting to Christianity and more people are coming out of the closet with their Christianity. Some list China’s main religions or beliefs as Atheism, Buddhism, Shenism-Taoism, Islam, Confucianism, Catholicism, & Protestantism. Many argue which ones are more popular but most would agree that China’s government has pursued and encouraged Atheism with great fervor.

HAS CHINA COME TO THE REALIZATION THAT CHRISTIANITY IS GOOD FOR CAPITALISM?

China is moving further away from Communism for over thirty years. It is a slow but steady process. The motivation behind the change is rooted in job and economic growth. So while it may not be pure its happening and perhaps purity will follow the economic effects. Don’t make the mistake of thinking Christians are welcomed in every corner of this massive land. There is still a great deal of persecution against Christians and other religions though some would argue the validity of this allegation. We allow the missionaries we know personally to tell their stories. The stories speak of persecution being alive and well. Some statistics indicate more people are behind bars in China for their faith than in any other country.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It is reported that three or more people are forbidden from gathering for religious sake without prior government approval.

Churches and other places of worship remain unregistered and thus illegal in China because to register your place of worship means the government controls what you do, who does it and how they do it.

It is illegal to educate a person under the age of 18 about God/Jesus.

The torture that many endure is unspeakable in the attempt by police to convince their captives to turn in others.

Many churches remain underground with “look-outs” in the event of raids that result in torture and murder, which are common. The worshipers are often told to “keep it down” when their excitement builds for their faith. There are Christians in China who have a very different account of their ability to practice their faith arguing there are no issues. Jim Mingri, a pastor of the Zion Church is one of them. He is proof that things are changing in China and that not everyone’s experience is the same. Did the Chinese government formally request the 700 Club appoint Christian ministers to spread the Gospel? We don’t know the specifics. So if you ever wonder why Christians in the U.S.A fight so hard for their right to practice, its because every religion, belief system, race, or classification of people is closer to losing their rights and freedoms as we know it because we live with a false sense of security. We fail to realize that a single catastrophic act or occurrence or subtle and gradual opinions can alter the way the country and world look at you. You can fall out of or in favor in a single day. 911 is a perfect example of an immediate shift in reaction toward Islam while Sikh followers were also targeted out of ignorance for the differences in attire. We are all susceptible. What we fight for in this country is what we fight for in every country for every person.

http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/china_705/interview/extended.html The word underground is being replaced with independent.

We take much for granted in the USA, including those of us who choose not to worship. We have the freedom to attend or not attend a church, a synagogue or any place of worship for a wedding, a funeral or a social gathering of any kind at your leisure. How many people who don’t practice a religion have had the luxury and freedom of attending a church because of an affair or event inolving a friend, family member or co-worker? Keep in mind many faiths are under persecution in China. As we look at the economy of America we MUST look at the economy of the world and other leading nations. Our jobs are effected by jobs overseas and vice versa. We can’t ignore their existence any more than they can ignore ours. How do we work side by side with a nation so different than ours politically and socially? Is it even feasible? Should it be attempted?

Perhaps closing the door on China would also be like closing the door on the Christians and Capitalists of China. China is more than just its government. Its 1.3 billion people who we can guarantee aren’t just vying for the number two position. They won’t stop climbing until they reach number one. When you witness someone you don’t care for (because their ethics differ from yours) climbing the ladder toward CEO in your company or some other powerful position, do you ignore them or do you strive to bridge the gap because that person will influence your livelihood? Your voice must be heard because it is crucial to your survival & the company’s survival. We witnessed what happens in the court room to the companies who hire and promote executives who are unethical while ruling with arrogance and an unyielding iron fist. Is China changing?

David Aikman, Ph.D. wrote a book titled JESUS IN BEIJING (New Christianity is Changing the Global Balance of Power)

Camden New Jersey is known for its impoverished status and high crime activity. Camden’s political officials were balancing a budget that was impossible to balance. The money is simply not there. As a result half of the Camden Police Department and one third of the Camden Firefighters were laid off today. All jobs and positions were effected in some capacity including those that served as a support for the actual police firefighters. Camden received less assistance from the state level officials and the revenue usually drawn from taxes has dwindled.

Photos of work boots from the laid off workers are lined up along the sidewalk outside City Hall to make a statement. They wanted to show the public how many officers would no longer be available in an already crime-ridden environment. No worker wants to be laid off. When the money is gone, what is a city, state or country to do? Approximately 335 workers lost their jobs today (1/18/2011) in Camden New Jersey. Some reports say this is 25% of Camden’s total work force and others estimate a little less. Regardless, private industry has been shouting from its roof tops for four years now and no one seems to be listening or seems to have cared. Private industry began laying off workers as early as 2006 and certainly by 2007 lay offs were in full swing and have yet to come to a halt. In addition hundreds of thousands of workers who lost their jobs in 2007 remain unemployed in 2011. Many who were fortunate enough to find work found work paying fifty percent or less than what they were accustomed to earning.

Many people who have been unemployed for years were watching the reactions of the firemen and women and the police force and support staff today who were laid off and the long term unemployed had mixed emotions. Their hearts went out to them but they also wondered why this came as a surprise because they have been trying to alert people to the catastrophe of joblessness we are facing nationwide. Many of the long term unemployed have already lost their homes, their cars, their ability to pay their every day expenses that most take for granted and their sense of self worth.

Mayor Dana Redd of Camden said they could have bypassed a good number of layoffs if the unions had been more flexible in their negotiations. Union officials argued that there was no guarantee from city politicians that jobs would be preserved if they were willing to concede on several issues and without that promise they felt jobs would be lost along with having given in to numerous concessions. As they say there are three sides to every story. There is still a chance for workers to regain some of the lost positions if the union agrees to the city’s proposals.

How many people in private industry would cherish the opportunity to “negotiate” their jobs back? That number would probably be in the 95 to 99 percentile range. Many workers are appealing their layoffs by filing formal appeals. The citizens of Camden have a great many concerns related to safety that most of us would never be able to attach a monetary figure to if it was threatened as it is in Camden, especially when you are facing crime on a daily basis right outside your front door.

At what cost do we compromise safety?

Is Camden just one city of many to follow suit?

On a more positive note mass hospital layoffs decreased over the last few months and that is excellent news for the health care industry. Unemployment for health care hospital workers was higher in 2009 than 2010 and seems to be heading in the right direction nationwide for 2011. Jobs are being created in the health care industry. Eight thousand jobs were added in November and forty thousand jobs were added for the year of 2010 prior to November.

Born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia Married June 18, 1953 (Coretta Scott-King) Marion, Alabama Assassinated April 4th, 1968 (age 39) Memphis, Tennessee

Based on his exceptionally high college entrance exam scores at Booker T. Washington High School during his Junior year, Dr. King, Jr. was advanced immediately to collegiate studies at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. He was only 15 years of age when he attended college (His brilliance resulted in him skipping his freshman and senior years of high school). He graduated from Morehouse in 1948 with a B.A. in Sociology. He immediately applied and was accepted at Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, PA. He also attended the University of PA. He was president of his senior class, valedictorian, recipient of the Pearl Plafker Award (most outstanding student) and the J. Lewis Crozer Fellowship for graduate studies at Crozer. He graduated from Crozer in 1951 with a Bachelor of Divinity degree.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

He became an ordained minister in 1948 (age 19) at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. and accepted the position of Assistant Pastor.

He was assigned a calling as the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL between 1954 – 1959.

From 1957-1968 he was the Founder & President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference & co-pastor with his father at Ebenezer.

He was president of the Montgomery Improvement Association 1955-1956 & Vice President of the National Sunday School & Baptist Teaching Union Congress of the National Baptist Convention.

In 1948 he began his graduate studies in Systematic Theology at Boston University and simultaneously studied at Harvard University. He earned his Ph. D. degree, a Doctorate of Philosophy in Systematic Theology from Boston U. in 1955. His dissertation was titled ” A Comparison of God in the Thinking of Paul Tillich and Henry Wieman”. He has a long list of honorary degrees both nationally and internationally. His credentials, memberships, titles, accomplishments and acts are endless. They extend well beyond what most Americans know him for ( Civil Rights Movement).

His Christian principles were uncompromising in terms of the greater causes and good of society. His faith was one that did not include violence despite the deeply rooted frustration over the blatant unfairness and injustices practiced against him, his race and others in this country not so long ago. To add insult to injury he was living in a country wherein the majority of the population proclaimed proudly its adherence to Christian principles and morals. If you can say that a country has a soul, this was a volatile time when the United States was being ripped apart much like it had been when the idea of abolishing slavery was brought to the table. Once again America was forced to stare at itself in the mirror and witness, inspect and analyze some of the darkest and ugliest parts of its soul. The growing pains that accompany maturity and change seem insurmountable at times. Just to get society to see it was wrong was one impossible feat. The next step is to get society to admit it was wrong. It sounds simple on paper, but its as painful and traumatic as taking a scalpel to your body and then cutting down to your soul to expose the filthiest of thoughts and emotions without anesthesia. To expose these issues in a single soul is painful and blinding enough in the light, but to do it with an entire nation is unconscionable. These are parts of us we hadn’t been forced to bring to the surface for generations. They were so intertwined in every day life few people even viewed it as wrong much less un-Christian. To bring muck like this into the light causes third degree burns on the soul and mind. Growing pains hurt which is why they are called growing pains. This country should not have been able to survive the violence and division it endured when slavery was abolished or the terror, violence and division it endured when a minority group dared to challenge segregation, inequality, lower compensation, unfair employment practices, and more. America did survive and is surviving. We are indeed blessed by God despite our transgressions. We are a mighty nation and have the ability to continue to improve and grow. We must keep looking in the mirror and never allow the fear of what we might find to outweigh the faith we have in God’s forgiveness and society’s forgiveness along with the ability to change and survive the pain.

Many of the beneficiaries of this movement were some of the worst critics of the movement. In other words Civil Rights did not just benefit Black Americans. The benefits are still present in the work place for WOMEN of all races, Latinos, American Indians, East Indians, Arabs, all Asian races, the DISABLED and more. So many people lose sight of the fact that this movement touched all the corners of America because it was for all Americans who experienced discrimination on any level. The reason we walk into office buildings now and see women and diversity in a variety of positions beyond and including clerical staff is based on this Civil Rights Movement. Let us not forget this. Dr. Martin Luther King and the many unknown heroes paved the way for ALL of us.

The movement was funded by wealthy Black, White and Jewish Americans. Many White Americans peacefully marched, protested and died beside Black Americans. If there was not a large number of diverse Americans opposing Jim Crow laws and the like, the movement could have failed, given its many obstacles. Another factor that forced our politicians to take action was the fact that America was sprawled across the front pages of the European newspapers and other media sources. Europeans were witnessing and reading about the fire hose incidents and other violence imposed on the peaceful protesters. Their leaders were contacting our leaders and asking about the atrocities. The power of the voice of the people was set into motion.

Dr. Martin Luther King and others dared to expose the unexplored caves of America. One can only expect that when you force an entire country to look at itself naked in the mirror and measure itself against Biblical principles, you are bound to incite fear and terror which evolves quickly into violence and more hatred… initially. In other words, your life is on the line. The men and women of this movement knew this and sacrificed their lives and the lives of their families. They recognized a higher calling and saw the bigger picture for future generations. They were big enough to know it wasn’t about them.

We often think about the laws & rights which followed the Civil Rights Movement, but how many of us thank Dr. Martin Luther King and others for the wake up call of our own transgressions which we would have otherwise gladly taken to our graves and never sought forgiveness for discriminatory practices as the norm throughout much of our society? It was so deeply rooted in society and family structures that many did not consider it a sin or question it.

How many practices are currently part of our every day lives that we no longer ponder if they qualify as transgressions or sins? We have become so numb and desensitized in some areas of our every day lives. Let us never become so complacent that we lose the willingness and strength it takes to examine ourselves continually and make the necessary adjustments to remain in line with the same principles this country claims its foundation.

True Christians never claim perfection or a self righteousness. We simply acknowledge we will always have to live with the consequences of our past mistakes, faults, and sins as the sins we acknowledge & repent upon are eradicated. We promise to always take a good long hard look in the mirror at ourselves and recognize our flaws are too many in number for us to conquer without God’s continual intervention. We promise, that with God’s Hand in our lives, we will embrace, accept and show Christian love for every person on this planet regardless of race, color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, religion, belief, physical challenge, economic or social status, etc. We don’t have to agree, but we do have to love and therein is the challenge and call of every Christian.

Thank you Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and all of those who died and served for the greater cause of all of America. Your DREAM is our reality and we are still working on it. Fear followed by hatred and violence will always exist, but we don’t have to stand by idly and let it consume and rule us because we live in a great country called the United States of America.

Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia is considered successful by the majority of the population in Virginia. Virginia’s unemployment rate is 6.8% at the most recent count. Look for your state and see where your state is ranked with relation to other states. Many of the lower unemployment rates are associated with sparsely populated states. Virginia is rather populated and that is the reason we are highlighting them and their governor. Governor McDonnell sports a low 26% disapproval rating and 57% approval rating.

Governor McDonnell is a Republican who won the 2009 election in a landslide against Democratic opponent Creigh Deeds. A position previously held by interim Governor Tim Kaine. Some argue that Virginia received $2.5 billion in stimulus money yet the Governor publicly bashed and stood against President Obama in signing the stimulus package. Every state benefited to some degree and the money was suppose to trickle down to various programs per state. We may not know the intricacies of why certain states are ranked where they are, but we know Virginia is doing well in terms of statistics. Even if some don’t fully agree with their politics, at least some of their decisions and methods must be correct and working in favor of the public.

We need to experience an increase of about 300,000 jobs for it to impact the labor rate. A job growth spurt of 150,000 only accounts for and balances out the newest members of our population (birth/immigration). The statistics reveal a total job loss of 8.5 million during this recession. Others argue a much higher number is more realistic ranging from fifteen to twenty million jobs lost. We enjoyed a gain of 1.1 million jobs in the entire year of 2010. 2010 proved to be the best year for hiring since 2007 when the recession began under the former administration. On average the last quarter of the year 2010 yielded job gains of 128,000 per month.

The national unemployment rate fell to 9.4% at the close of last year in December, 2010. The country experienced a gain of 103,000 jobs. There is a dilemma with these figures. Some say that while jobs are being created, there is also a faction of the unemployed population that is blending into the background of our society and they are becoming invisible. These are the people who no longer qualify for unemployment and have basically given up after two, three, four, five and more years without a job. We must also consider that portion of the population that is approaching retirement age and few to no employers are giving them any consideration.

Even though we didn’t create as many jobs as we wanted last month, there was a trade off in that unemployment was reduced in terms of rates more than anticipated by the experts. Experts wanted one hundred fifty thousand jobs to be created. We were short by forty seven thousand. The government had its share of lay offs and cut backs of approximately ten thousand workers. Nearly one and a half million Americans qualify as unemployed who are outside the radar range. In other words they have essentially given up looking for work.

Overall although we’d all like to see a quick fix to the recession and unemployment, the statistics speak loud and clear that we are on the UPSWING in terms of the economy, the job market and the overall recession. We are climbing up and out of our ditch and that is great news. Again, it is slow but it appears rather steady. We have to begin looking at the plus side of all of this. This is a country that was still facing stagnant issues with collision of American & Russian satellites; North Korea launches a rocket which spawns a meeting of the United Nations Security Council; H1N1 virus reached epidemic proportions; Government takeover of GMC because of grave financial issues; American Samoas are hit by an 8.3 earthquake rendering total destruction;

Red River flooding in Fargo North Dakota; Mount Redoubt in Alaska errupts on several occasions; Tornados ripped through the midwest and south and in areas not typically affected by tornados;

Dubai asks for a deferment on their debt after it completed monumental renovations and other construction and development projects, as a result stock markets drop significantly world wide in every major market (11/2009); Effects of Hurricane Katrina still linger and people remain homeless, the BP Oil Spill (spring of 2010), The Afghan War, the Iraqi War, the call of duty and rapid response to the victims of a monumental earthquake in Haiti, entire countries are being bailed out of financial ruin by the European Union (we are not one of them because we are not part of the European Union)…

This is merely a handful of items and events that occurred in the last two years. Eventhough we faced all of these issues and so many more, we are still climbing upward despite our obstacles. What does that tell you about our nation?
