Camden New Jersey is known for its impoverished status and high crime activity. Camden’s political officials were balancing a budget that was impossible to balance. The money is simply not there. As a result half of the Camden Police Department and one third of the Camden Firefighters were laid off today. All jobs and positions were effected in some capacity including those that served as a support for the actual police firefighters. Camden received less assistance from the state level officials and the revenue usually drawn from taxes has dwindled.
Photos of work boots from the laid off workers are lined up along the sidewalk outside City Hall to make a statement. They wanted to show the public how many officers would no longer be available in an already crime-ridden environment. No worker wants to be laid off. When the money is gone, what is a city, state or country to do? Approximately 335 workers lost their jobs today (1/18/2011) in Camden New Jersey. Some reports say this is 25% of Camden’s total work force and others estimate a little less. Regardless, private industry has been shouting from its roof tops for four years now and no one seems to be listening or seems to have cared. Private industry began laying off workers as early as 2006 and certainly by 2007 lay offs were in full swing and have yet to come to a halt. In addition hundreds of thousands of workers who lost their jobs in 2007 remain unemployed in 2011. Many who were fortunate enough to find work found work paying fifty percent or less than what they were accustomed to earning.
Many people who have been unemployed for years were watching the reactions of the firemen and women and the police force and support staff today who were laid off and the long term unemployed had mixed emotions. Their hearts went out to them but they also wondered why this came as a surprise because they have been trying to alert people to the catastrophe of joblessness we are facing nationwide. Many of the long term unemployed have already lost their homes, their cars, their ability to pay their every day expenses that most take for granted and their sense of self worth.
Mayor Dana Redd of Camden said they could have bypassed a good number of layoffs if the unions had been more flexible in their negotiations. Union officials argued that there was no guarantee from city politicians that jobs would be preserved if they were willing to concede on several issues and without that promise they felt jobs would be lost along with having given in to numerous concessions. As they say there are three sides to every story. There is still a chance for workers to regain some of the lost positions if the union agrees to the city’s proposals.
How many people in private industry would cherish the opportunity to “negotiate” their jobs back? That number would probably be in the 95 to 99 percentile range. Many workers are appealing their layoffs by filing formal appeals. The citizens of Camden have a great many concerns related to safety that most of us would never be able to attach a monetary figure to if it was threatened as it is in Camden, especially when you are facing crime on a daily basis right outside your front door.
At what cost do we compromise safety?
Is Camden just one city of many to follow suit?
On a more positive note mass hospital layoffs decreased over the last few months and that is excellent news for the health care industry. Unemployment for health care hospital workers was higher in 2009 than 2010 and seems to be heading in the right direction nationwide for 2011. Jobs are being created in the health care industry. Eight thousand jobs were added in November and forty thousand jobs were added for the year of 2010 prior to November.

Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia is considered successful by the majority of the population in Virginia. Virginia’s unemployment rate is 6.8% at the most recent count. Look for your state and see where your state is ranked with relation to other states. Many of the lower unemployment rates are associated with sparsely populated states. Virginia is rather populated and that is the reason we are highlighting them and their governor. Governor McDonnell sports a low 26% disapproval rating and 57% approval rating.
Governor McDonnell is a Republican who won the 2009 election in a landslide against Democratic opponent Creigh Deeds. A position previously held by interim Governor Tim Kaine. Some argue that Virginia received $2.5 billion in stimulus money yet the Governor publicly bashed and stood against President Obama in signing the stimulus package. Every state benefited to some degree and the money was suppose to trickle down to various programs per state. We may not know the intricacies of why certain states are ranked where they are, but we know Virginia is doing well in terms of statistics. Even if some don’t fully agree with their politics, at least some of their decisions and methods must be correct and working in favor of the public.

The national unemployment rate fell to 9.4% at the close of last year in December, 2010. The country experienced a gain of 103,000 jobs. There is a dilemma with these figures. Some say that while jobs are being created, there is also a faction of the unemployed population that is blending into the background of our society and they are becoming invisible. These are the people who no longer qualify for unemployment and have basically given up after two, three, four, five and more years without a job. We must also consider that portion of the population that is approaching retirement age and few to no employers are giving them any consideration.
Even though we didn’t create as many jobs as we wanted last month, there was a trade off in that unemployment was reduced in terms of rates more than anticipated by the experts. Experts wanted one hundred fifty thousand jobs to be created. We were short by forty seven thousand. The government had its share of lay offs and cut backs of approximately ten thousand workers. Nearly one and a half million Americans qualify as unemployed who are outside the radar range. In other words they have essentially given up looking for work.
We need to experience an increase of about 300,000 jobs for it to impact the labor rate. A job growth spurt of 150,000 only accounts for and balances out the newest members of our population (birth/immigration). The statistics reveal a total job loss of 8.5 million during this recession. Others argue a much higher number is more realistic ranging from fifteen to twenty million jobs lost. We enjoyed a gain of 1.1 million jobs in the entire year of 2010. 2010 proved to be the best year for hiring since 2007 when the recession began under the former administration. On average the last quarter of the year 2010 yielded job gains of 128,000 per month.
Overall although we’d all like to see a quick fix to the recession and unemployment, the statistics speak loud and clear that we are on the UPSWING in terms of the economy, the job market and the overall recession. We are climbing up and out of our ditch and that is great news. Again, it is slow but it appears rather steady. We have to begin looking at the plus side of all of this. This is a country that was still facing stagnant issues with collision of American & Russian satellites; North Korea launches a rocket which spawns a meeting of the United Nations Security Council; H1N1 virus reached epidemic proportions; Government takeover of GMC because of grave financial issues; American Samoas are hit by an 8.3 earthquake rendering total destruction;
Red River flooding in Fargo North Dakota; Mount Redoubt in Alaska errupts on several occasions; Tornados ripped through the midwest and south and in areas not typically affected by tornados;
Dubai asks for a deferment on their debt after it completed monumental renovations and other construction and development projects, as a result stock markets drop significantly world wide in every major market (11/2009); Effects of Hurricane Katrina still linger and people remain homeless, the BP Oil Spill (spring of 2010), The Afghan War, the Iraqi War, the call of duty and rapid response to the victims of a monumental earthquake in Haiti, entire countries are being bailed out of financial ruin by the European Union (we are not one of them because we are not part of the European Union)…
This is merely a handful of items and events that occurred in the last two years. Eventhough we faced all of these issues and so many more, we are still climbing upward despite our obstacles. What does that tell you about our nation?

Heading into the 2011th New Year of Anno Domini, we like to reminisce with our audience over the last eleven years (2000-2010). This segment is dedicated to the memories of people who walked this planet. Whether we embraced them or not we believe their names will jar something inside of us. This country and this world has potential beyond recognition if only we would direct our energy and resources toward good and remain constructive and productive, we could be witnesses to even greater accomplishments within ourselves and others.
Let 2011 be a year where…
- we pass a little less judgment
- we open our hearts to those that fall outside our comfort zone
- we search for things we can do for others in service to mankind
- we relinquish a few degrees of self absorption and self focus
- we recognize and celebrate our small victories and count our blessings thanking Something/Someone more intelligent & powerful than us
- we recognize our flaws and mistakes and move forward using them as a learning tool and not an excuse to continue to fall short
- we face every trial and punch in life as an “I dare you” challenge with the fervor of a warrior and the courage of a lion

We can speculate all we want as to how we got ourselves into this mess, when it happened and who is most responsible. We don’t think there is a single blameless person in this country any more than we believe anyone should serve as the sole scapegoat for our current predicament. Most of us are not well informed about who is running for a particular office, their history, or platform. We can blame it on time limitations, the media and so many obstacles that get between us and who we have placed in office since the establishment of the U.S.A.
Everyone knows by now that the extension on tax cuts is in place as of December 17th, 2010 and it will last for two years. What happens at the end of two years? Will there be an attempt to overcompensate for this “free ride” we are benefiting from today? Could it mean a 50% tax in the future or something close to it? It could and these are things we all need to watch for and pay close attention to as we listen and read between the lines of what politicians, incumbents and candidates are claiming and alleging in future campaigns. In the meantime we urge everyone, employers, individuals and families alike to “clock” their two year time period and fully comprehend that you must spend to help the economy but to definitely be mindful of stashing a portion of your earnings. At the end of two years none of us know how much will be taken back. Invest wisely and secure as much of your wealth as is plausible. Advisers recommend shielding ourselves from future taxation in 2013 safely, legally and moderately. Many experts don’t recommend hoarding because that is what has caused the economy to stifle itself over the last few years, but be wise about all your decisions and seek the expert financial advice you need.
The estate tax reform for farmers and ranchers is a definite benefit to the families and business structures in the agricultural industry. It provides much needed relief in the often forgotten areas of America, which is the rural areas. The American Farm Bureau Federation has offered its congratulations to President Obama and congress for their committment to this highly valued and necessary community.
John Boehner is expected to take the Speaker of the House position in January, 2011.
WHAT’S IN THIS NEW TAX BILL? (H.R. 4853)
-
As stated before, Americans of all classes will receive a continued tax cut for an additional two years
-
The qualified unemployed will receive a one year extension of the filing deadline for Federal Unemployment Insurance
-
The estimated cost of the bill is $858 billion dollars
-
Social Security beneficiaries will receive a one year reduction in taxes
-
There will be a 2 year reduction in estate taxes at 35% with the first $5 million dollars qualifiying for 100% expemption
-
$55 billion in tax cuts for the special interest groups
-
The 99′ers (those who have received unemployment benefits for 99 weeks) were not even a consideration in this tax bill
*Youth unemployment is at 18% and climbing.
*There are five applicants for every job opening (proof that joblessness is not increased or prolonged by unemployment benefits).
*It is a myth that the unemployed are lazy and slothful. Again we remind everyone that these unemployed people were getting up and going to work every day before they were told they were no longer welcomed at the workplace. These people didn’t just suddenly stop going to work. They were forced to leave. They were asked to leave. They were told to leave.
*What does and has caused continued joblessness for the 99′ers? Some say it was the free trade act which facilitated and encouraged outsourcing along with budget policies.
Have the very things put in place to help businesses, actually hurt them to the point they had no choice but to institute layoffs or restructuring world wide in order to preserve the company?

IS IT A RECESSION OR A TRANSITION?
every single country on this planet which is NOT an INDUSTRIAL COUNTRY is a poor country. Most people would agree with this statement. We were once an inudstrial country but now we are in a transition. Most would agree with this statement as well. This is what they mean when they say we are not in a recession or a depression. What we are experiencing is the transition period itself of the shift from industrial to non-industrial and there is a great deal of fall-out from such activity. We have outsourced countless jobs away from the USA for good. Our technology has increased thereby moving industrialism to the side according to the speaker. It’s suggested that our repair of the ccountry must come from a structural standpoint. In other words we must address the very structure of our country and economy and re-establish it before we can even think about reaching any level of success in generating jobs. This is not a Democrat or a Republican issue. It supersedes every political party and style of offense and defense whether that be liberal or conservative.
GOP TAKES THE HOUSE – OTHER RESULTS IN THE STATES
GOP TAKES THE HOUSE – OTHER RESULTS IN THE STATES The GOP takes the majority in the House of Representatives. It appears the Senate majority may remain with the Democrats, but it is too early to finalize this. This has been the change the GOP has been talking about and hoping for early on in President Obama’s term. We hope everyone is able to work together and recognize and acknowledge the seriousness of our country’s dilema. We can’t afford to squander any time as people continue to lose their jobs, lose unemployment compensation, lose their homes and nearly everything that makes Americans feel safe and warm. This country must stop with blaming one leader over another or one party over another and simply pull together and get the job done VOTE

With no unemployment extensions and no increase in job availability, people are running out of options, time and patience. We are doing our part every day to encourage employers to consider expansion and growth. We agree with some of our readers that at some point the real repairs to the economy are going to have to come from us and the market itself. There isn’t much any government or administration can do to positively impact the domestic and international markets. Its been several years now and we are no further along than we were when people first started losing their jobs in large numbers. Any changes that have taken place have occurred without effecting the middle and lower classes in a positive way. The bail out money from President Bush and President Obama was suppose to help stir growth in our economy, but it appears that money is long gone. The purpose it probably served was to help prevent these companies from collapsing all together.
REAL REPAIRS:
Putting a halt on spending, hiring, growth, and general market activity is what compounds the issues of the economy further. Everyone is frozen in fear and we think we are doing the right thing by stopping when in fact we are adding to the issues in our economy which eventually will come back to harm many more businesses more severely. What good is it to hold on to the dollars you have if the value of the dollar becomes worthless? A worthless dollar is worth nothing whether you have ten of them, a thousand of them or a million of them. If it turns into Monopoly money then quantity will have no impact on its worth. We have to start thinking in terms of fixing this one person at a time, one family at a time, one business at a time and one community at a time. Consumers seem to be doing their part as they hit the malls and retail shops along with the Internet and catalogues for general shopping, Christmas gifts, holiday gifts and other consumer related activities.
SNAP OUT OF IT:
I don’t know if most of us are still staring in the direction of Washington D.C. or what. We know they probably need our help as much as we need theirs. We might have a lot more flexibility than they do when it comes to impacting the economy. We must work in concert with what they are doing in D.C.. We have to snap out of the stunned gaze we have grown accustomed to when taking in all the two steps forward three steps backward sites of Washington D.C., our state and local politicians. If we wait for something to change on that end, we could be waiting a generation or more. For whatever reason their hands are tied. We’ve viewed a good number of the links our subscribers leave in their comments and they are interesting to say the least. We don’t care why their hands are tied or who tied them. We know we run into similar problems no matter who is in office. We can only assume they are also running into the same problems. The semantics no longer matter. We must begin moving. We have to grow. We have to stimulate our own growth. We can’t wait to hear a good word from the coach on the sidelines because he or she is immobile and stunned themselves. It is up to us as a few of our readers have suggested. If its not up to us, we need to take control and make sure it becomes about us.
WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSE TO DO?
Take risks. Not just any risk, but take calculated risks. Spend. Don’t just spend anything anywhere, but spend in the same calculated format that you assume other risks. Remember what kind of spirit you had when you first started your business, career or best part of your life. We took risks then didn’t we? Don’t let any event or anyone beat that lively spirit out of you.

AN EASY WAY TO KNOW & RESEARCH ALL POLITICAL CANDIDATES & VOTE IN THE ELECTION OF 11-2-10. We are using Georgia as an example, but you can click on your state of interest at the end of the blog article: NEXT TUESDAY – VOTE
This upcoming election on November 2, 2010 is extremely important for a variety of reasons. We are entering the tail end of October and we remain in the thick of the effects of a recession that started years ago. Is it reasonable to expect this recession to be repaired by now? Is it reasonable to expect some improvement through partial repair by now? Are there repairs that have occurred but that are invisible to us? Could the country have collapsed completely as we know it, but we were spared such a tragedy because of the government’s work we fail or refuse to recognize? We speak to people every day who are unemployed and when its all said and done their unemployment compensation has been exhausted and they no longer care about what is or isn’t fair when evaluating our leaders. The unemployed want and need results. They are desperate and ready to lean on Democrats, Republicans, Tea Party supported candidates, Libertarians, Green Party candidates and Independents. The main focus is gambling on who we THINK might have the solutions and more importantly who has the most EXPEDIENT SOLUTIONS to unemployment, generating new jobs, motivating the cycle of spending through a stronger sense of financial security. How can Americans earn cash and gain wealth? How can businesses increase business and profits? How do we stabilize our economy and crawl out of this recession as quickly as possible? We can start by voting.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHO AND WHAT YOU ARE VOTING FOR? THANKS TO PROJECT VOTE SMART, WE HAVE A LITTLE HELP IN THIS AREA.
WHAT IS PROJECT VOTE SMART?
http://www.votesmart.org/program_about_pvs.php
On common ground at a unique research center high in the Montana Rockies, a struggling group of Americans, who you are unlikely to know and will probably never meet, have begun a battle. A battle to protect all of us from the selfish interests that strip us of the most crucial component in our struggle to self-govern — access to abundant, accurate, and relevant information. Here at Project Vote Smart, Americans young and old volunteer their time, take no money from special interest groups, and have committed themselves to an extraordinary effort that, if successful, will provide their fellow citizens with the tools for a reemergence of political power not known for half a century. Their idea is one you may have thought of yourself. It is a deceptively simple concept but enormously difficult to achieve and would not be possible without the collaboration of citizens willing to lay their partisan differences aside for this one crucial task.
Picture this: thousands of citizens (conservative and liberal alike) working together, spending endless hours researching the backgrounds and records of thousands of political candidates and elected officials to discover their voting records, campaign contributions, public statements, biographical data (including their work history) and evaluations of them generated by over 100 competing special interest groups. Every election these volunteers test each candidate’s willingness to provide citizens with their positions on the issues they will most likely face if elected through the Political Courage Test.
GEORGIA VOTING NEWS & LIST OF CANDIDATES:
INCUMBENT DEFINITION: A person who holds a designated, assigned, established or indicated position, role or office. We can’t state the issues of each candidate in this blog, but we provide some general information so you have a way to conduct your own research under search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing or whatever search engines you prefer or typically use. Perhaps the best way to conduct limited but quick research is through the following website:

Although we are in the business of identifying and locating high qualitytalent for employers across the nation, we understand the reality of near or distant future retirement for many of the people we have placed in viable job positions over the years. For this reason we are drawing our valued readers’ attention to the latest news in Social Security. Given the recession and stats on unemployment, it will come as no surprise to many of you that there will be no increase in Social Security benefits for the year 2011. They claim it is based on the fact that inflation is too low. Doesn’t it make more sense that regardless of inflation, we are in the midst of just barely treading water as a nation because of the recession? We are sorry to report this news for the numerous retirees and disabled Americans across this country.
When you consider that so many of the elderly are barely able to afford their medication on the fixed income they currently have and to think it has been this way for them for years, it seems there is little relief for their wallets and feeling secure through their twilight years. Just as all of us know someone who knows someone who is unemployed, facing foreclosure or bankruptcy now we can all say the same is true of the 58 million Americans who are affected by this Social Security ruling. This is the second consecutive year that seniors and others won’t see an increase in Social Security benefits.
How will this effect the elections? It can’t help the Democrats and President Obama when it comes to the senior and disabled vote. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi mentioned that only after the elections will the House and Senate vote on a bill that would pay all Social Security payees $250.00. The bill is likely to be rejected by the majority of Republicans and several Democrats if and when it reaches the Senate floor. This is the same proposed bill which was rejected last year around this time. It may not matter to many senior and disabled voters WHO is opposing the bill as much as it will be yet another poor reflection on President Obama and his administration whether justified or not. Some argue that it is President Obama’s duty to successfully woo, court and convince Republicans and opposing Democrats to sign such a bill. Gas prices have certainly climbed in the last few weeks along with a host of other retail items and this seems to have little bearing on overall inflation when it is measured against the housing market and other industry statistics.
PLAN YOUR SCHEDULE NOW SO YOU DON’T FORGET TO VOTE NOVEMBER 2ND, 2010 NO MATTER YOUR PARTY AFFILIATION OR LACK THEREOF WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO EXERCISE YOUR VOICE THROUGH VOTING SO WE DON’T LOSE THIS PRECIOUS AND DELICATE RIGHT. WE STRIVE TO SUPPORT OUR CURRENT AND FUTURE LEADERS.
