We have listened to dozens of financial analysts and economists speak on the subject of our economy for hundreds of years. Recently we have paid a lot more attention to what they have to say because the U.S.A. is suffering the economic blows along with the rest of the world. Many of these analysts are well educated, they have their PhD’s and are experienced. 

WHY CAN’T THEY AGREE ON WHAT TO DO?    WHY CAN’T THEY AGREE ON HOW TO DO IT?    WHY CAN’T THEY AGREE ON WHAT TO DO FIRST?

We understand why the general members of society can’t come to an agreement on how to proceed with the repairs of our dilemma, but then again we are cast into the fires of ignorance through limited information and limited access to national and global statistics and variables which would assist us greatly in forming our views. We can’t understand how so many experts in the field of economics and finance have such drastically different views about the state of our economy.

WOULD ANY METHODOLOGY OR PLAN HAVE FAILED OR BEEN SLOW TO SHOW RESULTS?

We will never know because we only have one model to work from and that is the model formed and implemented by the current administration. We do know that based on news coverage of every analyst proposing something different that it seems likely that no one repair and maintenance plan would have produced drastically different results than what we see today. However, we stress there is no way to really know this because we are not in a laboratory which affords us test subjects with multiple variables and outcomes. 

It still comes back to America’s expectation of demanding that a person or group of people perform their job duties adequately and sufficiently because the application and acceptance of the job is voluntary. When we fail to see results, we are entitled to gripe and complain. 

HERE ARE SOME OF THE ARGUMENTS & DISCUSSIONS WE HEARD FROM FAMILY, FRIENDS, ASSOCIATES, ETC.

No economic plan would have yielded different results than what we are seeing today. There isn’t a president out there would could have fixed this problem without taxing us more. Even when we aren’t in this predicament, presidents tend to increase taxes in some sector some where.

The fix is easy, money should have been pumped into small business from the start and not the big companies that President Bush loaned money to. It is proven that small businesses generate more jobs and hire more people than large business.

If President Bush did not loan eighty five billion dollars to the big guys, the entire economy would have collapsed in ways we can’t imagine because these large companies have their hands in everything from law to insurance to banking to manufacturing and so on. President Obama was forced to follow suit for the same reasons. 

There is no possible way you can prepare for the job of President of the United States. It is an on-the-job training job that is full of hundreds of thousands of surprises than what you anticipated so that anything you initially planned to do becomes moot. To the public it seems like you have lied, but in reality you have been exposed to unforeseen data and information which forces a change in plans. 

Since we now know that President Bush borrowed $2.5 trillion dollars from China, what great or not-so-great man, woman or administration can manage that type of debt in an already sunken economy? Its like taking over a company or firm and their books show a profit of ten million dollars in a good year but they have fallen to five million a year. Your plan is to get them back up to ten million a year and more, but they conveniently neglect to inform you that they borrowed one hundred million dollars from a bank and have not begun paying it back yet. The company you THOUGHT you  bought, you don’t even own and can’t begin to own until you pay back the one hundred million dollars. Your employees are looking at you in amazement that you haven’t magically made everything right over night.

There are no excuses for failure. Get it right and if you can’t get it right, then leave office and let someone else have a shot at it and if they can’t get it right, they too should leave until we find someone who knows what they are doing. This would eventually force the type of thinking we want in the White House as opposed to what has been in the White House for the last thirty or forty years. After five or six presidents step down for failure to produce via their performance evaluation with a one or two year period, you would see a quick change from special interest groups being stroked to men and women shifting their emphasis to making independent decisions uninfluenced by lobbyists, special interests, and campaign funders.  The same would have to hold true for House of Reps, Senators & Supreme Court Justices where we have access to their attendance, voting records and spending records( expense accounts). We should have put this into practice decades ago. The problem is we can’t even agree on who we think has done right by us and who hasn’t. The person next in line would be their opponent who had the largest number of votes next to them (despite the party) and if that second person failed, then the person with the third highest votes would take the second person’s place and so on. This would also bring a halt to bipartisan head games because a senator who refuses everything suggested by a president of the opposing party would also face expulsion for failure to produce results and the public would be able to see those childish antics because their records would be exposed. It would force Republicans and Democrats and all others to work together for fear of their opponent taking their spot. 

The blame is on the person and the administration hired to do the job and no other explanation or support is needed for that statement. The simplest form of clean up is a maid who is hired to clean up after a party. She did not throw the party. She did not attend the party. She did not create the mess and she may not have known how bad it was until she got there. No matter what, she won’t get paid if she fails to “clean house”. She has to figure out a way to clean up this awful mess left by others. Certainly the economy and unemployment is a lot more complicated but the expectation is the same. This is not a volunteer job. One does receive a salary, an expense account, and a life long eye catching resume which will launch a former president and vice president into just about any area they desire. You can head up a church, build homes for the poor, serve on boards, or enter the live speaker circuit. Either way you are set for life even if you were an unpopular politician so American citizens have every right to demand favorable results because presidents represent ALL of us, not just the people with the big bucks, power & influence. Most of us will never reach the earning power a president has. people laugh at the president’s salary, but you know what most people don’t earn that much. In addition you can probably triple or quadruple the salary based on the perks, wardrobe, grooming, presidential fleet of cars, planes, hotels stays and expense accounts.

CANCER, PAIN & ALLERGY CURES ON THE HORIZON IN HEALTH CARE?

Following a six week project involving the collection of octopus species, 4 new species of octopi have recently been identified.  They came from Antarctica. Two new types of venom have also been discovered within these species. The venom is unusual because it is effective in sub-zero temperatures. This caught the attention of researchers who believe the venom MIGHT serve as a source to manage and/or cure of pain, allergies and cancer.

Needless to say research is a long process so nothing is etched in stone to date, but it gives us hope. Keep in mind, for a myriad of reasons, it takes even longer for the U.S.A. to secure approval from the F.D.A. for the distribution and administering of drugs/pharmaceuticals. It serves as a positive sign nevertheless.

CEPHALOPOD: Is a marine mollusk which has a fully developed head, eyes and suction-cup-like tentacles. It is usually without a skeletal structure.

INVERTEBRATE: Animal without a backbone.

OCTOPUS:Falls into the category of a cephalopod. We know of approximately 300 different species in this category. 

Octopi are thought to:

be the most intelligent of the invertebrates

be usually fond of coral reefs

emit ink for disguise

change color for camouflage

have 2 eyes

4 pairs of arms

have the ability to squeeze into tight spots because of the absence of bone structure

VENOM:All species of octopi are venomous, but to date the tropical based Blue-ringed octopus releases the only venom known to be lethal to humans. These latest venom discoveries contain a variety of toxins, as does all venom. However, there are two new toxins in this most recent venom never recognized before.  There are also new proteins in the venom which researchers say may contain additional keys toward strides in medicine and health care.  The venom from the Blue-ringed octopus (tropical type which can be deadly to humans) is being compared since it most resembles the venom of the newer species. 

This causes us to pause and consider the countless species which are being destroyed in and around the Gulf from the oil spill. Species matter because they have their own value in and apart from the human race.  It also is important to secure their safety and future because we are charged with these duties on this planet. If those persepctives aren’t convincing, then from a survival standpoint, every species serves a purpose to the environment and therefore to us since we exist in this enviro0nment. It is a difficult and sometimes an impossible balancing act as our desire and drive to take leaps and bounds in technology often time overshadow or outweigh the risk and possibilities we face in destroying or maiming ourselves and the environment.  We begin thinking in terms of money, investments, greed, wealth, the economy, etc. & pretty soon we have rationalized ourselves right into a hazardous-high-risk endeavor.

We risk this in every stride we take on the technological front. We have done it with nuclear plants, automobiles, pesticides and more as the debates continue on their degree of value, productivity, effectiveness, danger, risk, ability to create jobs, long term and short term effects on health and the environment.  So much is invested in determining whether or not the introduction of something new into our society will benefit us more than harm us. All of these factors are taken into consideration before decisions are made to move forth with a product, service, process or program.  

Something somewhere and somehow will suffer from every stride we make mechanically, biologically, economically & environmentally. It is impossible to invent and remain creative without facing a consequence on the other side. If we halted every invention from the beginning of time because something suffered as a result of that invention, we would enjoy very few inventions and creature comforts today. This is not to suggest that our duties and obligations can be thrown to the wayside. It is essential we maintain an awareness of the balance of life as we move forward as a society in our exploration and development of new ideas. 

This is a prime example of the fact that many of our answers are right in front of us, but we wonder how many times we “miss the boat” because of human error, lack of focus in the proper direction, and our overall destructive behavior as humans at times.  

Most of us think cancer would be our primary concern, then pain then allergies. Last evening we learned about a young boy who suffers from extreme food allergies to the extent he is limited to a diet of pork. Literally everything he eats places his life in danger from getting rashes, to hives, to his esophagus swelling, asthma, nausea, vomiting and more. He has to be fed intravenously daily to assure certain nutrients are being absorbed by his body. Can any of us imagine a diet of pork. The interesting thing was he looked healthy and he was extremely agile and athletic with a wonderful spirit. We always thought allergies were limited to a select few food groups. Although this little boy’s case is rare, it is something to consider as carrying a higher degree of importance than what we may have thought. We hope for some relief through these latest findings with this venom.

We strongly advise against flooding the market with your resume before asking a recruiter for help. The more work you do on your own in trying to find a job, the less effective a recruiter will be for you. It typically takes about one year from your last resume send-out for your name to be clear within your field of expertise.

The sooner you connect with a recruiter the better it is for you (the candidate), the client (employer) & the recruiter.

Remember recruiters talk to one another and network constantly just like any other profession, if not more so. Some candidates (job seekers) wonder why they may not hear from a recruiter for months at a time. Many times it is because that recruiter has already been alerted to the fact that a candidate is working with five or six other recruiters.

Pick and choose carefully. Be selective in your choice of recruiting firms. Don’t ruin the process before you get started. Most recruiter want to help. We enjoy helping people. It is what makes us “tick” or else we would not last in the profession. Most recruiters can help provided you are upfront and honest with them.

There are always poor quality or questionable people in every profession. Don’t allow your negative experiences to rule your career. As with any product or research, you must choose wisely to secure the BEST results.

There are plenty of excellent & well qualified recruiters available to make your selection. For every five to ten great recruiters there are those that may disappoint. That does not provide a valid reason to never use a recruiter again. It does however give cause to exercise discretion at all times. 

Recruiters have access to resources, jobs, contacts, and skills that you don’t. You are skilled, trained & educated to be an expert in YOUR FIELD.

Most professionals are not skilled, trained & educated to be a professional job seekers or hunters, job placement specialists, public relations experts, marketing executives, advertising agents, professional resume writers, or professional interviewers on their own behalf.

If there is something which mars your work history, divulged it to the recruiter immediately. Do not try to gloss over it or talk yourself into thinking that no one will discover it. Fixed mortgage interest rates have dropped (SPECTACULAR NEWS).

California is beginning to hire with special focus in the Silicon Valley sector.

Certain companies in California are starting to RE-HIRE employees which were previously laid off. This is excellent news for the job market. California has always served as somewhat of a trend setter for the remainder of the country in many respects. Many large corporations have raised money through investors to get back on track with regard to their overall financial stability and to re-ignite the hiring process.

One company in particular is seeking to hire 1000 employees. The largest debate amongst Americans is whether or not the company should have the flexibility in searching for the BEST  talent. Most people feel employers should have this flexibility (ON THE SURFACE). The crux of the question however focuses on immigrant or foreign workers coming in and filling some of these positions. We welcome every-one’s views whether you are an employer, an employee or unemployed. We welcome comments from all over the world so we have fresh perspectives from all who are affected.

The response to this may be very different especially during a time when our nation’s economy is suffering from the effects of a recession, debt is higher than it has been in a long time, foreclosures continue to be a threat and there is no easy fix to any of these challenges. 

Normally most people agree that employers should be permitted to hire who they want to hire. However, when people are given the option to provide a response to this dilemma on the basis of a foreign versus national worker (American citizen), the response may vary.

On the “other side of the coin”,  most countries would likely vote in favor of hiring one of its national citizens before hiring an American who is seeking employment in a foregin land.  How much input do we have?  How much input should we have.  Should it be based solely on

                                       who is the most qualified

                                       the BEST fit

                                       the most talented

                                       the most experienced, etc.? 

                                      

People may exercise a different view on issues of this nature when bank accounts, wallets, and money are directly and adversely effected within individual households. Those who are struggling and are unemployed would be less likely to be satisfied while witnessing a foreign worker being offered a position in their area of expertise within their home town or city.

Some employers conduct business here but are not American routed companies. Is there any degree of loyalty to the American worker? Is the American worker owed any loyalty in your opinions?     The last two blogs addressed napkin usage and glassware at a dining function. As stated previously, these tips are excellent for social or professional settings.

    WHICH ONE IS MY BREAD PLATE? Your bread plate is to the left of your forks or above your forks (10 or 11p.m. on a clock).  

    WHERE DO I START WITH SILVERWARE? Since the forks are on your left, start using your utensils from the far left toward the right or from the outside and work your way in toward the plate. The same is true of knives and spoons.

    The outer most fork will be a fish fork (sometimes shrimp cocktail-very thin & dainty). Please note if salad is the first course, then the outer fork is the salad fork. Be flexible and use each fork in accordance with how you are being served. Some meal courses will be served as fish, main course and then salad. Others will be an appetizer, salad/soup then the main course.  

    The largest fork (if they are sized differently) will be the main course fork.

    RIGHT SIDE OF THE PLATE… The right side of your plate should encompass a soup spoon &/or coffee spoon.

    The next piece of silverware should be the fish knife (some settings place the butter knife here if it is not placed across the bread plate). 

    The next knife is the main course knife.

    Remember whether you are sitting down to a typical three course meal or an eight course meal, you should simply work from the outside toward the inside of the plate.

    WHAT ABOUT THE SILVERWARE AT THE TOP OF MY PLATE? The silverware at the top of the plate is for desert.

    WHAT ARE ALL THESE PLATES? In a multiple course function, smaller plates may be stacked atop your main dinner plate. When the server arrives he/she will remove and replace dining ware as needed.
